IWC provides instant compound for British Army sniper course: March 2017
As further proof of the versatility and ruggedness of the product IWC® is proud to have been involved in the recently publicised final exercise of the ‘Sniper Concentration Course’ that appears on the official British Army Facebook page this week (March 10th at 12.33pm GMT).
The Professional Range of IWC Portable Training Walls were deployed to one of the most barren and desolate places in England; on Salisbury Plain. Creating an instant range building complex for a CQM element of the live fire exercise.
The exercise was the culmination of a three-week training course, where the students from 1RRF showed their expertise and long range marksmanship with not only the L115A3 Sniper Rifle but developed knowledge and understanding of the capability and limitations of their L85A2 Rifle and Glock 17 service pistols.
The 18 inflatable training walls were deployed from a standard 3.5 tonne mobile operations vehicle which had the capacity for a further 20 walls on board. The works party of 3 people deployed, inflated and built the range building in under an hour, which was over 100m from their vehicle access. Troops were instantly able to train as if in the built environment where previously was only grassland.
The walls were deployed to enhance the realism and quality of the training. The inflatable wall layout would have been quick and simple to adapt to suit different evolutions or scenarios. All of the trainees were surprised about the robustness and rigidity of the walls given that they were “only inflatables” – they inspired confidence in the techniques they had been taught.
