Increased pressure on Police Training Estates – IWC has the solution: April 2017
With the ever increasing threat posed by terrorist attack by vehicles being used as weapons, whether heavy goods vehicles, cars or 4×4’s the police response and doctrine needs to be raised to match. National Police Chief Council lead for Armed Policing Simon Chesterman has been speaking on the topic recently.
“We are looking to double the size of the counter terrorism specialist firearms officers (CTSFO) team that was built for the Olympics, they will be brigaded into hubs around the country. These officers are a potent force that train alongside the military and are fully interoperable.”
With increased numbers of police volunteering to join the ranks of armed officers the demands of existing training facilities will be heightened. Where the few existing specialist urban training facilities do exist they are already shared and combined with other facets of training from Public Order to Forensic Investigations and Search.
IWC® presents a novel solution to urban environment training where efficient use of training real-estate can be maximised. The IWC Portable Urban Training System is the only urban training structure which can be transported, rapidly deployed, trained within and compacted for storage as well as be able to withstand all of the rigours of armed police training.
Simon Chesterman added “We have the ability to move much quicker to resolve situations. Previously the approach was to locate, contain and neutralise. Now it is to locate and confront. Our tactics are more aggressive.”
IWC Portable Urban Training System is certified for use with Simunition® FX® marking rounds both 9mm and 5.56mm therefore ideal for Police Armed Response training with service issue Glock pistols, MP5 SMG and G36 carbine rifle.
The IWC Portable Urban Training System replicates real world scenarios and allows the safest practice of movement skills in the built environment including the use of specialist equipment such as ladders. The applications are as diverse as the challenges of modern policing. The layout and configuration can be rapidly adapted to suit training objectives so that scenarios need never be repeated and training remains fresh, conditioning the response.
IWC Portable Urban Training System is also in service worldwide with:
